Harry P. Leu Gardens

Landscape Photography Workshop

with Milton Heiberg

This is a full day workshop in 3 parts

                            (bi-monthly throughout the year)

Part 1: Wednesdays, 7:00–8:30pm - Planning session

Part 2: Saturdays,  9:00–11:00am - Field Photography

Part 3: Wednesdays,  7:008:30pm - Show and tell critique session

Learn how to capture the beauty of natural landscape images through techniques taught by a thirty-year veteran of nature photography. This workshop will cover composition, timing, lighting, weather conditions, as well as processing images on the computer (the all important other half of digital photography). Participants should own a digital single lens reflex camera (DSLR is preferred, but a point-&-shoot camera is OK). Email three of your favorite images (any subject) to the first session.

This workshop will be given as two ZOOM classes in your home, with a Saturday field work session at Leu Gardens. The fieldwork will demand wearing masks and maintaining social distances.

Participants should own a DSLR or MSLR camera and a tripod.

Upon registration you will be asked to email three of your favorite photos (any subject) to the instructor for review at the first session.

Also, upon registration you will receive a free copy of the instructor’s latest eBook, The Essentials of Nature Photography, 2ed. Sample pages may be examined at: http://miltonheiberg.com/e-book-Sample-Pages_(2018-05-14).pdf

Wednesday - In addition to the normal rules of composition, we will discuss the relationship of forms within a frame and how to control them in camera. We will learn to create a scene that will invite the viewer into it and stay within it.

Saturday - We will meet inside the entrance of the Leu Garden’s main building armed with cameras, tripods, and masks, then continue to locations within the gardens where we will demonstrate techniques outlined in class.

Wednesday - Prior to this class, please select and email five photos from Saturday’s session to the instructor.

We will return to our ZOOM classroom for a show-and-tell session. Constructive critique sessions are probably the most valuable experiences for any photographer. This session will also show how to bring your photos to their maximum visual quality using computer software.
