The Crealdé School of Art Presents:

Photographing the Natural Landscape (260) - with Milton Heiberg

8 sessions, 6 classroom sessions and 2 Saturday field trips
October 23 - November 27, 2006

Students will learn new skills needed to improve their nature photography. Subjects will include how to look at a landscape, when to capture the best light, what to include and what to leave out. Students will practice their newly learned skills on two Saturday field trips. Either film or digital images are acceptable. See below for class syllabus.

Prerequisites: Photo II or similar experience.

Syllabus:

10/23 (Monday): 1- Introduction,
    a. Bring 3 of your best slides (nature or other)
    b. Landscapes and niches
    c. Weather and the seasons
 
Each session hereafter (unless noted) will begin with a critique of student’s
current work; maximum of 3 slides per student for each session.
 
10/30 (Monday): 2- Equipment and Peripherals
    a. Large format vs. 35mm
    b. View cameras: when to use & when not
    c. B&W: when to use & when not
    d. Panoramic formats
 
11/4 (Saturday): 3- SATURDAY 6:30 AM (for 6:58 AM sunrise) FIELD TRIP TO MERRITT ISLAND NWR(no slides)
 
11/6 (Monday): 4- The Dynamic Situation and Safety
    a. Dealing with the forces of nature
    b. Weather prediction and timing
  
11/13 (Monday): 6- Places I
    a. Beaches, Forests, Water Reflections
    b. Places to capture wilderness (exchange discussion)
 
11/18 (Saturday): 6- SATURDAY 6:30 AM (for 6:57 AM sunrise) FIELD TRIP TO MERRITT ISLAND NWR (no slides)
 
11/20 (Monday): 7- Places II
    a. A review of wildlife refuges and preserves
    b. Exchange discussion
    c. Summary
 
11/27 (Monday): 8- Presentations & Summary
    a. Exchange discussion
    b. Building a slide presentation
    c. Special slide show with music
